Prayer Bear Ministry

By clicking on the link below you will find how the prayer bears came to be a
ministry of Trinity United Methodist Church:

October 2016

Recently we received a request for 10 prayer bears from a school in North Carolina.
We sent them out the prayer bears and below is the note we received from them.
Please note that we do receive requests for our prayer bears and we are now in
need of more.  If you are able and willing to help out with our Prayer Bear Ministry, please know that there are supplies upstairs in the room behind Belcher Hall.
Please let the office know if you are willing to help!

Dear Trinity UMC,
Thank you all so much for the Prayer Bears.
They will definitely help students in need. Your thoughtfulness
and generosity is greatly appreciated.  Thank you for your support.

2009

Busy Season for Prayer Bear Ministry!!!

More than 200 bears, dressed in camouflage wearing hand knitted camouflage scarves sat proudly at the alter of Trinity United Methodist Church in Bluefield on November 23 to receive a special blessing from the congregation to carry with them to the battlefields in Iraq.  The Prayer Bear “cutters, sewers and stuffers” of Trinity, with the help of many “friends of Trinity” completed more than 200 Prayer Bears to be presented to the 150th HHT Army National Guard Unit that is stationed in Bluewell.  The group will report to active duty on December 1 to prepare for deployment to Iraq early in 2009.  Our own Nicholas Lawrence is a member of this unit.  It is impossible to name all those who worked diligently to complete this project, but special thanks goes the Family Readiness Group of the National Guards and the Bluewell Methodist Church Quilters. Rev. David Hall of Bland Street Methodist Church and our pastor, Rev. Susan Rector, joined the others in knitting the scarves.  Some of the bears may remain with the families as a reminder that our prayers are with their loved ones for their safe return; the soldiers may tuck the scarf away in their luggage to remind them of God’s love and the many people praying for them here at home.
